Wakeboarding in Texas (For All Levels)
When Monster Tower, a wakeboarding tower and accessories manufacturer, created a list in 2017 of the top 10 U.S. cities where wakeboarding was growing fastest, three were in Texas. It makes sense in a state with an ample supply of pristine lakes and powerboats and a healthy thirst for adventure.
If you aren’t familiar with the sport, wakeboarding is something of a cross between waterskiing, snowboarding, and surfing. Riders are pulled — sometimes behind a boat, sometimes by a cable attached to a tower — across a body of water while strapped to a small, surfboard-like wakeboard. The best riders can use the wake of the water to hurl themselves into the air and perform aerial tricks. While wakeboarders are active on our many lakes and waterways, there are several waterparks made specifically for wakeboarding in Texas where beginners and experienced riders can test their skills and agility.
Explore these can’t-miss spots for wakeboarding in Texas.
BSR Cable Park, Waco
BSR was previously named “Cable Park of the Year” for good reason. The 12-acre lake features six cable towers with custom obstacles that are a challenge for any level of rider. The park also features the longest lazy river in the U.S., thrilling waterslides, and Texas’ premier surfing wave pool.
Quest ATX, Austin
This park’s facilities are designed to allow six riders to be pulled at once on courses that range from a beginner’s cable to an obstacle-strewn advanced course, making it ideal for learning and improving at wakeboarding. While you’re at Quest, you’ll also want to try out the rope swings, paddleboards, and waterslides.
Texas Ski Ranch, New Braunfels
Texas Ski Ranch offers rock-climbing walls, a skate park, a trampoline park, and even a human-made snow park, where you can snowboard in the Texas heat. But the centerpiece of this sporting paradise is the wakeboarding cable park, which allows beginners to get their feet under them and experienced riders to hone their skills and show off their moves.
