By Andi Breitowich 4.6.26

Texas boasts some of the most spectacular rose gardens in the country. Whether you’re planning a romantic date, a leisurely stroll, or seeking a bit of floral inspiration for your own backyard, the Lone Star State offers a wealth of beautiful rose gardens well worth exploring.

San Antonio Botanical Garden Rose Garden, San Antonio

Nestled within the San Antonio botanical gardens, this charming rose garden features hundreds of varieties, from classic reds to cheerful yellows. Spring is prime time for a visit, with April and May being the best months to see the flowers in full bloom. Strolling the rows of roses is a lovely activity for all ages, and the winding paths and shaded benches make it comfortable to linger.

Tyler Municipal Rose Garden, Tyler

The Tyler Municipal Rose Garden is world-famous and a true Texas gem. With more than 300 rose varieties and 600 beds spanning 14 acres, it’s the largest rose garden in the United States open to the public. Roses are at peak bloom in October and mid-May, so be sure to visit when the entire garden explodes in vibrant, bold colors. In the fall (specifically the third weekend of October every year), the Tyler venue hosts the annual Texas Rose Festival, which is a great family outing with music, parades, and community fun.

Fort Worth Botanic Garden Rose Garden, Fort Worth

If you’re in the Fort Worth area, be sure to check out the Fort Worth Botanic Garden’s Rose Garden. It’s a romantic haven from late April through mid-May, with meticulously arranged flower beds, fragrant blooms, and a reflection pond that looks like something out of a fairy tale. The garden was originally designed in 1933, but after years of work and renovations, the premier spot was rededicated in 2017. It’s definitely worth your time.

McGovern Centennial Gardens Rose Garden, Houston

McGovern Centennial Gardens Rose Garden, part of Hermann Park Conservancy, features roses alongside eye-catching sculptures. Peak bloom typically occurs from late March until May, and the garden’s mix of rose varieties means there’s plenty to take in (and smell). If you’re up for it, the nearby open lawn within the conservancy also makes the perfect spot for a picnic

Rose Mary Haggar Rose Garden, Dallas

This classically designed pocket rose garden at the Dallas Arboretum showcases over 200 roses from 16 different varieties. The garden stays green most of the year, but to see the roses in full bloom, visiting in October is recommended. Its intimate layout of the garden makes it an ideal spot for a quick visit, but there’s no shortage of spectacular color. Once you’ve had your fill of roses, explore the rest of the Arboretum, which is overflowing with sweeping beds of seasonal plants and flowers, infinity pools, sculptures, and lush green lawns.

Tulips are another fan-favorite floral. Check out seven of the top tulip farms across the state.
