Do Mother’s Day Texas-style
Mother’s Day is May 12 this year, and you might be wondering what to do for mom. You could go the traditional flowers, candy, spa treatment route and that special lady in your life might be happy with that. But everything is bigger in Texas, so why not Texas-size your Mother’s Day?
Miles of Flowers
A traditional bouquet in a beautiful vase just won’t cut it for Texas moms. Instead of a dozen flowers, take your mom for a Sunday drive to Johnson County, just southwest of Dallas, to pick all the wildflowers she can carry.
Imagine driving down the winding roads with fields full of Indian paintbrush, pink evening primrose, and black-eyed Susans. It’s not illegal to pick Texas wildflowers, including the bluebonnet, but it is illegal to trespass on private property. Be aware of any signs posted and have a great day enjoying Texas wildflowers.
Chocolate On Demand
Do you find yourself running to the local grocery store every year to pick up a box of chocolates? Most people wouldn’t mind something to satisfy their sweet tooth. However, instead of a standard box of chocolate, you could gift an entire chocolate factory.
Shakolad Chocolate Factory offers private tours, hands-on chocolate making, and a chocolate fountain for your indulgence (call for availability). Texas moms can enjoy a sweet day at locations in Amarillo, Plano, Fort Worth, San Antonio, and The Woodlands.
Spa For the Mind
Moms love spa days just to get away from it all. You could spend $100 or more for a relaxing spa treatment. Or you could spend five dollars and treat her to Texas’ best outdoor spa, Gorman Falls.
Colorado Bend State Park is northwest of Austin and has one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the state. You can take a guided tour of the falls with a one-and-a-half mile hike, or go without a guide for a three mile hike. Gorman Falls is a great place to relax and unwind this Mother’s Day.
The Journal of Positive Psychology released a report that concluded that people value experiences more than possessions. This Mother’s Day, give mom a Texas-size experience that she will remember for years to come.
