Cozy Up With These Good Winter Books

With the Texas winds howling and the roads icing over, nothing beats curling up with a few good winter books. Here are four winter books every Texan needs on their shelf.

Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry

This Pulitzer Prize-winning novel follows a group of retired Texas Rangers on a cattle drive to Montana. The book was adapted into a critically acclaimed miniseries and deserves a place of honor on every bookshelf.

Texas Eats by Robb Walsh

Texas just isn’t Texas without its classic down-home cooking and Tex-Mex cuisine. This cookbook runs the gamut of delicious Lone Star flavors.

Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream by H.G. Bissinger

High school football is king in Texas, and so is this nonfiction read that follows a season at Odessa’s Permian High School.

The Gates of the Alamo by Stephen Harrigan

Perhaps Texas’ most infamous historical event, the Battle of the Alamo will be revisited, debated, and written about for generations to come. Beautifully written from the perspectives of three different characters, this novel is a must-read take on the historic battle.
