Traveling With Your Dog

Dogs make fabulous travel companions; give them a window to stick their head out and let their ears flap in the breeze, the occasional treat, and potty stops and they’re one happy pup. So if you’re taking your four-legged friend with you on the road this summer, keep these dog-friendly travel tips in mind.

  • Pet-friendly hotels – Be sure to ask these questions when you book your pet-friendly hotel. Can you walk your dog on the grounds? Are there off-leash areas nearby? Can you leave your dog unattended in the room? Are there convenient dog resources available, like vets, supply stores, or groomers? Will you need to bring your dog’s shot records? Also, ask if the hotel offers services for your dog like dog-sitting, a dog spa, or a dog shop, for your last-minute needs like treats and toys.
  • Pack for your pup too – Make sure you bring along extra food in case of an emergency. You will also want to include a pet first-aid kit, safety harness for car rides, and plenty of toys to keep them occupied on the trip. It’s also recommended to carry a voucher of health or recent shot records with you when you travel.
