Post-Quarantine Home Inventory Check
Over the past 18 months, our homes have been a refuge from the outside world, serving many roles — ranging from classroom and office to movie theater and campsite.
As we look ahead to closing out a second pandemic year, there are some steps you can take to revive the home that’s gotten you through so much. Here’s how to take stock and prepare your home for post-quarantine life.
Update Policies
Kick off a home inventory by evaluating your insurance coverage with a 360 Review. This gives your Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Agent a chance to find any coverage gaps you might have acquired through significant life changes over the past year or two, whether it’s a home renovation or new family member.
Upgrade Safety
For many Texans, staying home was the ideal opportunity to tackle long- lingering home improvement projects such as kitchen renovations and structural additions. Now is a good time to ensure you have smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and fire extinguishers in new or spruced-up spaces. If you’ve added value to your home through a renovation, make sure you have the coverage you need to protect your investment.
Protect the New
If you’ve purchased a new computer for your home office or a guitar for your newfound hobby, you’ll want to mention this in your 360 Review. An endorsement on your property insurance policy will cover these items, but more specific coverage — such as an inland marine policy — might be a better coverage fit, depending on the value of your items. This also gives you an opportunity to clear out any older gadgets or electronics you might have lying around gathering dust.
Clear the Clutter
If your weekly Amazon deliveries got a little out of control over the past year, it’s OK; we’ve all been there. But it might be time to take stock. Channel your inner Marie Kondo and ask yourself: Does this item spark joy — and still serve a purpose? If there’s anything you may not need anymore — like that rowing machine — a review of your belongings gives you an opportunity to sell or donate.
Take (Life) Inventory
Although the outside world slowed to a crawl during the past year and a half, milestone moments — engagements, job changes, and births — marched on, often shining a spotlight on the importance of our homes. If you’re headed down the aisle soon, use this time to evaluate auto, home, and life insurance coverage. For those who’ve changed or lost jobs, your Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Agent can help you assess your health coverage needs. New and expectant parents might want to consider a term life insurance policy.
Let’s face it: A lot has changed over the past 18 months. Make sure you have the coverage you need to protect your way of life. Contact your local Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Agent to set up a 360 Review.
