Cast aside those needlessly expensive fishing lures. After all, there’s no sense breaking the bank to catch a fish. In fact, the only things you might need to break are a few spoons and wood blocks. These DIY fishing lures make use of everyday household thingumajigs that’ll get you hooked on fishing without having to spend a fortune.

Stick Lure

That’s right — a stick. And it’s as simple to make as it sounds. Just take a small stick of wood. Carve down the stick to the size of a minnow, drill a hole to loop in a paper clip for your line, and attach a fishing hook. For the finishing touches, add googly eyes and some nail polish to give it color and a waterproof coating.

Spoon Lure

Got any extra disposable spoons lying around? All you have to do is cut off the handle, drill two holes on either end — one for the line and one for the hook — add some thread and a few features and, voilà, you have one heck of a fishing lure.

Spoon Handle Lure

Now, what to do with the handle? Drill holes on either side — one for the line and one for the hook — draw some diagonal lines, glue on a googly eye, and you’ll have fish chasing this lure all across the lake.

Cork Lure

Never toss out a cork. Instead, you can insert hooks and glue on googly eyes for a lure that’s sure to attract some monster bass.
