Best Father’s Day experiences in Texas

By Rachel Elmalawany 6.3.13

Forget paperweights and ties. If you’re looking to give a special man a great experience for Father’s Day, check out these great destinations to give dad a day to remember.

Texas Open-Pit BBQ, Millheim, TX

It’s authentic. It’s delicious. It’s real Texas open-pit BBQ. A lot of BBQ cookouts and competitions cut corners with stainless steel gas ovens and MSG rubs, but not this one! The Annual Father’s Day BBQ in Millheim benefits Millheim Harmonie Verein’s Dance Hall. It’s a 70-year-old tradition that offers whole sheep and quartered cows that start on the smoker the night before. German polka music, cake wheels, silent auctions and open-pit BBQ is a great way to support old German Texas culture and have a great time.

Rough Creek Lodge, Glen Rose, TX

Off-roading, four-wheeling, hunting, and fishing are just some of the great outdoors activities for dad and the family at Rough Creek Lodge. The lodge offers a hotel, cabins, or guesthouses for families or companies. For an extra fee, a guide will provide you with hunting dogs and weapons for a guided hunting excursion. Children 15 years and younger stay in the room for free and eat free from the children’s buffet.

Father’s Day at the Texas Rangers Ballpark, Arlington, TX

Hot dogs, popcorn, and a free Texas Rangers baseball cap for the first 25,000 fans! Take Dad out for a day of baseball and bonding time while rooting for the home team. The game starts at 2:05 p.m. and the Rangers will play the Toronto Blue Jays. Blue Bell ice cream will be on sale for $1 for anyone younger than age 13.

No matter how you spend your Father’s Day in Texas, make it a good one.
