How to Celebrate Easter in Texas

By Eve Hill-Agnus 4.3.25

When Easter falls later than usual in the year, spring is well underway, which means more blooms, more warmth, and even more opportunities to be outside for the long weekend.

It seems like just yesterday that we were celebrating Valentine’s Day, but it’s almost time for a weekend of entertaining out-of-town family members, tracking down confetti-filled eggs, or baking an Easter brunch hummingbird cake.

Here are several Easter events and other activities taking place across Texas that are sure to please everyone in the family.

Easter Egg Hunt at Seawolf Park, Pelican Island, Galveston
April 19

Spend Easter on “island time,” frolicking on Galveston’s Pelican Island, where a free annual community Easter egg hunt (for children up to age 12) will entertain the adventurers in your group while others can seek face painting and photographs with the Easter Bunny. History buffs will love checking out every detail of the dry-docked WWII submarine and destroyer near the fishing pier and playground. Also, this year, Easter weekend falls during prime bird-watching season in Galveston, when migratory birds fly north from Central and South America. So, make it a long weekend and enjoy the fresh ocean air.

Easter Bike Tour, Fredericksburg and Kerrville
April 18—20

For the athletic, outdoorsy types, we invite you to the 52nd Annual Easter Bike Tour, which offers three days of routes and fun in the rolling Hill Country. Get ready for cycling comradery, maps, and well-stocked rest stops — plus evening socials and post-ride parties with live music and food trucks. Make this an unforgettable, super-social, and heart-healthy way to take in the season’s bluebonnets. Don’t forget to outfit your bike helmet with fuzzy, white bunny ears.

Enjoy an Easter Sunrise, Big Bend National Park, Palo Duro Canyon State Park, or Enchanted Rock State Natural Area
April 20

Nature and sunrise lovers, rejoice! The Lone Star State offers myriad spots to watch a glorious Easter sunrise with family. Consider spending the long weekend camping or make it a hiking day trip. There are around 90 state parks in Texas, but the Lost Mine Trail within Big Bend National Park offers exceptionally breathtaking vistas under a cotton candy pink and yellow sky. Palo Duro Canyon and Enchanted Rock also provide memorable moments for early risers.

River Cruise Brunch, San Antonio
April 20

Downtown San Antonio will bustle with its 2025 Easter Eggs-Travaganza Celebration, which features a kid-friendly Easter egg hunt, moon bounce, and petting zoo. But it’s also home to what some might consider the most unique Easter brunch in Texas: Dine and float down the San Antonio River. Zocca Cuisine D’Italia offers several seatings for guests who want to enjoy cinnamon rolls and avocado toast on a festive barge that follows the famous River Walk.

A Foodie’s Easter

An outdoor Easter may beckon, but indoor experiences can be just as nice. Treat your family or out-of-town guests to an elegant Easter afternoon tea or reserve a festive brunch at a nearby hotel for a staycation feel without needing to book a room. If you feel like hosting, construct an eye-catching and mouth-watering grazing board or throw a garden party complete with games and sweet treats.

Texans may be familiar with cascarones, but do you know the history of Wendish eggs?
