There’s a certain charm — and
satisfaction — to a good thrift store find. We have different reasons for
browsing thrift store aisles. Whether you’re restyling your wardrobe on a
budget or trying to ease your imprint on the environment, thrift stores in
Texas serve a multitude of purposes.

Here’s a guide to some of the
best, most beloved Texas thrift stores, from the Panhandle to the Hill Country.

Dolly Python, Dallas

This quirky shop is consistently recognized as one of Dallas’ premier vintage stores. You may spend a little more money here than you would at your average thrift store, but this self-described “vintage emporium” is worth it. Browse their impressive assortment of boots and hand-selected clothing from the ’40s through the ’80s.

Hidden Treasures, Austin

With an inventory that’s
constantly changing, you truly never know what you’ll discover in this
“boutique-style” thrift store. The mother-and-daughter team behind it search
Austin-area estate sales for the best merchandise they can find. The store
lives up to its name with its assortment of modern furniture and home goods.

Hill Country Memorial Hospice Thrift Shop, Fredericksburg

Take a break from some of the
town’s upscale, sometimes-pricey boutiques and stop by this wooden storefront.
What makes this Texas thrift store stand out is its selection of German
porcelain, china, and collector plates. Also, proceeds help support Hill
Country Memorial Hospital.

St. Vincent de Paul of North Texas, Dallas

There are two locations within
North Texas. Visit the Dallas location to get your hands on a little preloved
piece of Highland Park, one of Texas’ most affluent neighborhoods.

Texas Thrift, Locations Across Texas

There’s more than 25,000 square feet of potential finds in each of Texas Thrift’s 14 stores, which range in location from Arlington to Austin. You can expect to find a little bit of everything, including accessories, children’s clothing, and even exercise equipment. Texas Thrift stores often pay local nonprofits for merchandise they’ve collected.

The Uptown Shoppe, Amarillo

Shoppers have found antiques,
accessories, and — most notably — furs here. But there’s a larger goal. This
thrift store is one of three in Amarillo that supports the Downtown Women’s
Center, an organization that provides housing and services for those fighting
homelessness and addiction.

Leopard Lounge, Houston

Get a healthy dose of nostalgia
with a visit to this Montrose-area secondhand store. You can expect to find
racks of men’s and women’s clothing spanning the ’50s through the ’90s. This is
the spot for grunge-era T-shirts and high-waisted jeans.

So, what sets a Texas thrift store apart from the rest? Often, the hidden treasures are as charismatic and diverse as Texans themselves. Find more at one of these 12 antiques treasure troves.
