They devote their lives to serve and protect us — here are four ways you can thank your local first responders during National Police Week.

In a crisis, we rely on the real-life superheroes that we call first responders. They are the people who rush toward danger and risk their lives to save ours. During National Police Week (May 15–21), give back and give thanks to not only your local police officers, but firefighters and EMS personnel, too.
Here are a few ways to give back during National Police Week:
Keep them strong. Help refuel them both physically and emotionally by donating essentials like bottled water, snacks, lip balm, coffee, and other everyday essentials.
Provide comfort aids. For emergency situations involving children, having a simple stuffed animal can make a world of difference. Donate new stuffed animals and other tokens of comfort like coloring books and crayons, books, blankets, and toys to help children feel safe when they need it most.
Give money or time. Donating to your local fire or police stations, including charities and organizations that assist first responders, goes a long way. If finances are a little tight, consider donating your time by organizing a fundraiser or volunteer event in your community.
Show love and support. Consider organizing a “Thank your first responders” community event and gather multiple letters to shower your local departments and precincts with appreciation.
While National Police Week may only happen once a year, be sure to honor and commend those who devote their life to service throughout the year.
