Top 3 Texas Bachelorette Party Ideas
Before you know it, wedding season will be upon us. And bride tribes will come together to kick off the matrimonial festivities with “one last hurrah”— a bachelorette party.
If you’re the maid of honor tasked with planning a weekend getaway for the bridal party, take heart that you don’t have to go far for a celebration everyone will love. Throw a Texas bachelorette party at one of these three destinations.
Fredericksburg: A Country Escape
The Hill Country is the place to be for a laidback getaway and a total charmer for the country-loving bride or groom. Fredericksburg has a little of everything: history, scenic views, shopping, and fine dining.
Connect with nature. Get a kick out of hiking Enchanted Rock, a massive pink granite dome offering amazing views of the countryside. Hike 11 miles of trail up and around the dome or belay your way through a rock-climbing adventure. Take a picnic as a reward for reaching the top!
Shop till you drop. If half the party wants to skip the hike, they can take a stroll through Main Street, which is home to over 150 shops, restaurants, and more. Peruse East Main for boutique shopping or West Main for art galleries and furniture stores.
Dance the night away. The historic Luckenbach Dance Hall is a mere 10 minutes from Fredericksburg. There, your group can two-step the night away to live country music from up-and-coming musicians. Don’t forget to pack your boots.
Marfa: Weird and Wonderful Adventures
Only about 1,800 people live in Marfa, but this tiny city has made quite a big name for itself in the arts community. This peaceful desert town — effectively in the middle of Nowhere, West Texas — is an oasis for creative types, boasting renowned galleries and Insta-worthy art installations.
Go on a big adventure. Big Bend National Park is only an hour and a half from Marfa. The park sprawls over 800,000 acres of desert (that’s larger than the entire state of Rhode Island) and houses 1,200 species of plants and 600 species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. Go for a hike, a trail bike ride, or a trip down the Rio Grande in kayaks or canoes. And keep an eye out for rattlesnakes and coyotes!
Get your culture fix — anda photoshoot. Explore (and Instagram) Prada Marfa, The Stardust Motel sign, and the “Greetings From Marfa” mural outside Frama Coffee.
Have a fancy sleepover. Marfa is glamping central. If spending the weekend in a tent or vintage trailer sounds like your style, look no further than El Cosmico. Or enjoy a luxurious stay in the historic Hotel Paisano, which was built in 1930 and houses a giant Western memorabilia room.
Tell secrets under the stars. Wherever you stay in Marfa, you’ll be treated to an amazing view of the enormous Texas night sky above the sprawling desert landscape. Marfa is a stargazer’s paradise. The stars will twinkle above you nightly — as might the Marfa Mystery Lights. These mysterious lights, which appear along the southeast horizon as the sun goes down, blink, merge, and change colors. There’s much folklore about this bizarre phenomena, which reportedly began in the 19th century. UFOs? Spirits? Reflections? It’s almost more fun not to know.
South Padre: A Thrill-Seeker’s Paradise
South Padre Island has Texas’ largest stretch of undeveloped barrier island land. Translation: calm waters perfect for high-octane water sports. You can throw an epic Texas “beachelorette” party perfect for any speed.
Bond over an adrenaline rush — or embrace the beach bum life. With so many group activities available on the water, your only challenge is to choose. Rent jet skis, go parasailing, or hop on a WaveRunner for a wild ride. You can even go skydiving. (Now there’s a trust exercise!) If your group is a little less ambitious, there’s plenty of beach for all to catch some sun, build sandcastles, and snorkel to your heart’s content.
Look for wildlife. Animal lovers will enjoy sighting sea turtles, exotic birds, and bobcats at the Laguna Atascosa Wildlife Refuge or exploring the coast by horseback at the South Padre Adventure Park.
Catch your dinner. Out on the water, you can rent boats and take tutorials on deep sea fishing. If you’re lucky, you might just reel in your own dinner.
What about after the Texas bachelorette party? The bride will appreciate your logistical support as she gears up for the big day. Help her sort out a few of the 1,001 details by scouting for outdoor wedding venues and learning how the couple can make their “I dos” official.
