When
you use the same password over and over again, it makes life extremely
convenient … for hackers. A safer practice, recommended by digital-security
experts, is to have a unique password for every website. But with many of us
using 50 or even 100 logins on a regular basis, how are we ever supposed to
remember so many passwords?

A
password manager can help. These simple tools can store hundreds of passwords
for you, making it easy to use a unique, hard-to-guess password for each of
your online accounts — a hacker’s worst nightmare!

Here’s how to get started with a few of the best password managers and ensure your online security.

iCloud Keychain

If
you’re a Mac user, this is a great way to go. Safari integration and
cross-platform functionality make it a cinch to generate and store complex new
passwords, then auto-fill them seamlessly across all of your Apple devices. As
long as you’re upgraded to the latest iOS and OS X, iCloud Keychain is already
on your computer. Visit Apple for full instructions on how to get started using
these great (and free) features.

Dashlane

The free version of Dashlane offers many of the same features as iCloud Keychain for users of both PCs and Macs. It can securely store personal data such as your home address and credit card info and automatically enter it into online forms. The free version of Dashlane limits you to 50 passwords, but premium versions are available for $5 to $10 per month. Added features include credit monitoring, which helps you take swift action if your credit card info is compromised, and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance.

Keeper

Keeper’s free option provides unlimited password storage for both Mac and PC computers. The free version of Keeper can auto-fill passwords on your mobile device; paid versions of Keeper allow you to use auto-fill across all of your devices, store files securely, and access a private messenger service called KeeperChat. Keeper’s family package helps you protect your family’s data and reputation for just a few dollars a month, while business plans are specifically designed to shield business owners from cyberthreats.

With
more of our sensitive personal data being stored online than ever before, using
hard-to-guess, unique passwords is a critical component of any personal
security strategy. Luckily, whether you need to store one password or 100,
these password managers have you covered.
