City Spotlight: Grapevine
Although it’s home to more than 5,300 hotel rooms, Grapevine rarely attracts visitors who stay holed up in their hotels. This festive town located about 30 minutes north of Dallas/Fort Worth is known for attractions that keep people out and having fun all throughout the year.
Rich in History
In the oldest city in Tarrant County, there is always something going on to celebrate either the town’s historic past or its fruitful future. The city was established back when the Lone Star State was still the Republic of Texas, and it has preserved the historic charm from way back then, even keeping an original vintage Steam Engine 2248 (aka “Puffy”) on display downtown.
Christmas Capital of Texas
Today, Grapevine hosts more events over the holiday season alone than most cities do in an entire year (1,400 events in 40-plus days) — earning its nickname, the Christmas Capital of Texas.
Its seasonal festivals are a big draw, but the city sees nearly 20 million visitors throughout the year looking to sample even just a slice of that iconic Grapevine charm. Power shoppers love walking the mile-long circuit at Grapevine Mills Mall, while boutique lovers can find a more relaxed shopping experience on the streets of Historic Downtown Grapevine.
81 Holes of Golf
Grapevine’s historic Palace Theatre has welcomed its fair share of stars including LeAnn Rimes, Miranda Lambert, and Keith Anderson. Drawing outdoor enthusiasts, Grapevine is also home to 81 holes of golf, including one golf course touted as the world’s first and only NFL-themed golf club, and more than 25 miles of both paved and natural trails for hikers and bikers.
Festive Food for Everyone
Grapevine residents love to dine out, and favorites like Esparza’s Restaurante Mexicano and OldWest Cafe never disappoint. But a local tradition involves ordering a few artisanal street tacos with chips and homemade guacamole from Mi Dia from Scratch and heading out for a picnic at the idyllic 8,000-acre Lake Grapevine. Trust me — you won’t be disappointed.
